Valentine Slouch Hat

I am horrible at coming up with names for things. This hat is a tiny bit lacy but not too much. Red just reminds me of Valentine's day. I was trying to think of something to make with the left over Simply Soft yarn I had from making the Sweet November scarf/shawl and came up with this. I used the same lace stitch on it in a few places. I think it turned out pretty :) What do you think? If you can't see the picture right click on it and select view picture.

*****Update 3-06-10*****
I'm sorry to have to do this but I feel I must. Some people have been making things with my free patterns and selling them without giving me any credit at all. I am taking this pattern down. It will be available for $3.00 in my Etsy shop. (I don't think that is too much to ask) I am leaving some free patterns up for now. If I find out people are selling the finished product without crediting me I will remove the pattern. (I would prefer no one sell anything made from my patterns at all but there isn't much I can do to prevent that.)

this may seem like a silly question, but what does "increase in every sc mean?" I guess I don't understand what "increase" means...Please help!!! I love this hat and I want to make it! :D I eagerly await the answer!

Jennifer: It means 2 stitches in every stitch

Thanks April, You rock!!! Many thanks thrown your way! :)
I will now try again. Although I gotta say, these fpdc & bpdc stitches are mean.

April, Can I use red heart or is simply soft better?

AprilDraven said...

you could try it. I would imagine it would be a bit stiffer and a little bigger than mine but most people' heads are bigger than mine. I have noticed that after a wash a lot of hats that were stiff turn out to be fine. Just a tip :)

i wish you would update the websites that list your work as free.

i've come upon 5 of your "free" designs from searching for a hat to make for me, myself and i. they're all no longer available.

it's a shame too, because i enjoy your work. i hope someone is paying you, because i won't be. the inconvenience alone has cost me more than three dollars of my time.

que sera, you're only waging a competition war. my designs will be given from love to everyone without all this intellectual property b.s..
i don't understand why people care only in retrospect for what they have divulged online. i bet i can go to a web archive and retrieve your whole collection and publish links to it if i were mean and vengeful. i'm not, i'm just confused- if you put a pattern out for free, you risk a lot of things (that i assume you should have been aware of.), to then pull back that gift is really tacky.

you can delete my comment if you'd like. it makes little difference. i'm not making a critique about you or your designs, just your fickle behavior. free patterns are a gift to your artistic community, revoking them is in the end artistic suicide.

pick one, sell or give. don't do both with flip-flopping intent. it's just plain tacky. you're the only artist i've seen do this lately and i'm saying, artistically,
"shame, shame, i know your name."

booo! april, boooo!

Jen: Thank you for your opinion. Understand you are commenting on a post that is 2 years old. Please don't assume to know anything about me.

Jen: At the time I took down all the links I personally posted. The links you are talking about are from sites that just posted without asking me if they could. If you want to get angry at someone please direct your anger at those sites. I have no idea of knowing who posted my stuff where.

I dont mind paying for the patterns, they are Great :)
I have been following April along time, and it is not too much to pay for one of her great patterns, she could not offer patterns either way,so be lucky to have an option to buy them :)

Thanks April :)
