Nine Inch Nails Hat *Free Pattern*

I have made quite a few of these hats. I just love Nine Inch Nails :D My favorite band EVER! so I decided to share the pattern.

This is a good pattern for a base beanie. Just make without the NIN for a plain hat or switch up colors and patterns.

*****UPDATE 11-23-09*****
I made a tutorial on how to switch colors and use a chart
Here is the link

Gauge: 4 inches = 13 stitches and 14 rows

Abbreviations:
Rnd: round
Sc: single crochet
Ss: slip stitch
FO: Fasten off

*NOTE: use a marker and work in rounds*

With black ch 1 or form magic circle
Rnd 1: 8 sc in ring
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (16)
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next sc* rep from * to * around (24)
Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next sc* rep from * to * around (32)
Rnd 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in next sc* rep from * to * around (40)
Rnd 6: sc in each sc around
Rnd 7: *4 sc, 2 sc in next sc* rep from * to * around (48)
Rnd 8: sc in each sc around
Rnd 9: *5 sc, 2 sc in next sc* rep from * to * around (56)

Rnd 13: *7 sc, 2 sc in next sc* rep from * to * around (72)
RND 14&15: sc in each sc around (2 rounds)
RND 16: sc 20, then start the white in the pattern
Rnd 17-27: sc in each sc around (11 rounds)(this should complete the pattern)
Rnd 28&29: sc in each sc around (2 rounds)(this should be the main hat color)
Rnd 30: sc in each sc around (this is the trim color) ss 1
FO
The picture is upside down so it is easier to put on a hat :D

Oh and some cool trivia for ya: The Fragile was released in September 1999 so this is an awesome 10 year tribute to the band :D

Hey April,
I have been following your blog for a few months and its amazing. My BF has loved NIN for a very long time. I was planning to make him this hat with your free pattern for Christmas but since we live together its impossible to get enough alone time to accomplish this and keep it a surprise. Is there any way you could make one and put it up in your Etsy store? I would pay almost any amount 'cause I think its awesome and so are you.
Thanks, Sarah.
Please feel free to contact me for whatever in the meantime.

sure! I charge $20 plus 2.50 shipping for hats :) I wouldn't be able to make it until after Thanksgiving though but it only takes me a day so you would still get it quickly. Let me know if you still want me to make it and if you do what colors you want it.

Hey April,
Thanks for replying so fast. Yeah I am definitely interested in the standard black main color, white NIN logo, and then a dark green for the edge trim.
Let me know when its ready.

MeanSarah: You never gave me an e-mail to contact you so I hope you get this. The hat is done. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c128/AprilDraven/The%20Temp%20Folder/100_5994.jpg
Let me know if you are still interested and I will put a listing up in etsy for you. If you have decided you don't want it that is fine too just let me know :) I can always give it to someone for Yule :D

Dear April, Sorry about that, I thought Blogger automatically put my email address on here when i commented. Anyway, please put the hat up on etsy and I will purchase it. my email is uniquegirl423 at gmail.com (no spam please) so you can be sure to recognize me in the future.

Hi April! I love the pattern I am also a serious fan of NIN! Thanks so much for posting the pattern, and I'm sorry that your etsy store has suffered. Don't worry there's only a few of us lovelies who can crochet! I like your idea of an anniversary hat but I have to say its 20 years since Pretty Hate Machine was released in 1989 :o The fragile is one of my favorite albums by NIN, so 10 years works too! Thanks again I love it!

My favorite band of all time. Trent is a musical genius! I got to see him live, front row, right in front of him in Hawaii a couple years back. Took me 13 years to get to a show and it was awesome! I just came across this hat and look forward to making myself one. Thank you for sharing this! :)

AprilDraven said...

Oh I LOVE Trent too. I was lucky to get to see him in concert twice. Once with my husband (we are both huge fans) we were in the front middle, in the pit for that concert. Soooooooo much fun!

I just made this today and my husband loves it! NIN is one of his favorite bands, and I've been searching for a shirt with just the NIN on the front, but there are none to be found. So THANK YOU for this pattern!
