Candy Rainbow Slouch Hat

My daughter loves rainbows and keeps trying to get me to wear her rainbow hat in public. I like rainbows too but I also don't like tons of eyes on me. This hat is subtle enough for me to wear out LOL. I also thought ridges would be cool on a hat. Adds texture to the colored stripes. I named it Candy Rainbow because for some reason it reminds me of skittles haha. Maybe I just have candy on the mind with valentine's day coming up. What do you think? After this hat I am taking a month long break. I have so much stuff on hold to do. :)

I have the pattern available for $3.00 in My Etsy Shop if anyone is interested.

  13. April, I am very with you about being scared for a parent with cancer. Three years ago, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Then a year later my dad was diagnosed with cancer in his back (of all places), but somewhere along the line he contracted staph infection. Thankfully it was not the fatal kind, but it was still difficult to see him in pain. Thankfully they are both well again and nearly 100%. Sending all my positive energy towards you and your father. This is not going to be easy. *hug*

Also thank you so much for sharing your creativity. You have a great style and talent!

  17. April, my thoughts are with you and your father, and I hope you are both strong enough to pull through this. I lost my father to cancer when I was only 8 years old and I miss him every day. I wish your family the best. :]

  18. I wish I was closer to my dad. When I was younger we were close but now we both have different families and are busy. I keep telling myself that this will be the year I spend more time with him and now this happens. Lesson Learned. Some things you shouldn't put off.

  19. Hmm, hello April. My name is Natree =) I was almost finished with this hat, and all of a sudden the pattern wasn't there anymore! Bummer... but totally understand the reasoning behind it. Sux that greedy peeps end up taking things away from us other not so greedy peeps, I was actually using your patterns for slouchy hats to make one for my roommate who has dreads. I hadn't found ONE cool pattern until I came across your blog, and so far the hat is turnin out spectacularly! My neighbor crochets so I will have her help me finish this one up. I will definitely be buying a couple of your patterns, because they are just way too cool. Thanks for sharing your creativity with the world, April =) Peace.

  23. Disregard the above deleted comment, I was going to say how unfortunate it was that I'd missed out on your pattern by a few days (queued it up two days before you removed it!), but I've found my print-out copy now so I'm going to give it a go. :)

Once I get a little more skilled I'm thinking of trying to make your dragon... could be a while off yet! lol.

My thoughts are with you and your father. ♥

  24. i'm sorry to hear about your dad April... May God bless your family especially your dad...

I'm really surprised when you removed most of the patterns for the hats... i've seen your site last december and found it very helpful. Since i don't have any crochet hook available for the hat here, i tried to order online and i think it's coming next week... but then when i viewed your site today, poof, most of the patterns are gone... wish i could have visited your site and ordered the crochet hook earlier...

this was suppose to be my first time to make my own hat.. i might use the pattern for the breast cancer awareness slouch hat..

Thank you for the pattern April.! <3

  29. I design too and hate the idea of people using things I designed and wrote to make and sell without any credit or permission. It just seems wrong. However there are many out there who believe once they have made something, from your pattern, that the finished object belongs to them and you don't have any right to stop them. The law does not stop them in the US from doing that...and its wrong, but it is worse when people pinch a pattern published free....I know, people have done it to me.

  30. Erssie: The thing that made me so upset was that I made the patterns available for free and they couldn't even credit me. It is a simple sentence and they couldn't do that much.
I visited your site and I noticed you have a book published. How did you manage to accomplish that? I want to get my work published in a book but I have no clue how to go about it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

  32. Hi April,
I just discovered your blog and your items are so very creative. I wanted so very much to make the Candy Rainbow Slouch Hat for my two granddaughters as a Christmas present and was very disappointed when I went to your shop on Etsy and saw that you had removed the pattern entirely. This is such a a let down for those of us that sincerely want the pattern just to make the hat for family as gifts. I don't suppose you would be willing to e-mail me a copy; I would be more than happy to pay for it and I have a PayPal account. If this is too much to ask, I will understand. Btw, how is your dad? I've read your post concerning your dad and know he was battling cancer earlier this year and I do hope he has fully recovered. I am a cancer survivor of eight years so I can relate to the illness very well. I hope to receive a reply from you soon.
Best wishes to you and yours,

p.s. :) I had to open a Blog account in order to send you this message...interesting:)

  33. Kersleaf: Just regular worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn
Sandie: I didn't remove the pattern. When someone buys it the listing goes down and stays down until I relist it. Sometimes that takes a little bit because I am not home all day or I am sleeping at night. It should be up now if you want it :)Thanks for your warm wished about my dad. He kind of retreated from people so I don't really know how he is doing. His girlfriend give me updates once in a while. Everyone deals with it in a different way. When he is ready to see people he will contact me :)

  38. April, Do you ever make hats for sale? My eleven year old granddaughter saw the pattern for the Candy Rainbow Slouch Hat and just emailed me asking if I could make it for her for Christmas. I have to say I am not a good needlework person. I would pay you what ever you wanted if tou would make one for me.
