I wanted to show my Browncoat pride and make a Firefly hat, but since I also design patterns, I didn't want people thinking I was incapable of making a decent hat. Not everyone knows about Firefly/Serenity. Crazy, I know right! Since the original hat is Knit I had some playing around to do. I think I did a pretty good Fake Knit job ;) What do you think?

This is so SHINY! I can't wait to get started on this! I've been looking for a pattern for Jayne's hat for a long time! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but this isn't like Janes hat it's too good!! It's what Janes hat was supposed to look like ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your patterns and love your work <3
This looks really great! I think you pulled off the faux-knit well. I can knit, but it's so much faster to crochet. :P What brand of yarn did you use for this?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the pattern, for rounds 3-18, is it suppose to be Fphdc and Bphdc? It is written as Fpdc and Bpdc but the key says Fphdc.
ReplyDeletePaula Hanafee:
ReplyDelete3-18 is Fpdc and Bpdc. I just forgot to add those to the key.
This pattern is great! Approximately how much of each color of yarn did you use for this? I'd like to use the Wonderland Yarn Mini-Skein Packs, but I am not sure it would be enough.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I'm making mine to go in a charity auction basket along with my books.

BTW, big fan of your Mom's books.

Hi! How big is the finished hat? My husband has an XL head and I don't want to make it and find out its too small. This is the best looking Jayne Cobb hat pattern I can find on the internet! Can't wait to start it!
ReplyDeleteI made 2. One with the original sized hook according to the pattern, it was to small even for my head. Then I made another one with G sized hook and it is just slouchy enough for my husband's head. Cute pattern.
ReplyDeleteHi! Love this pattern! I found that using between 106 stitches in the chain for L and 116 for XL sized heads works best when using a G hook.
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog through the Krazycouponclub, and I'm thrilled to have found this gem. Can't wait to try making this hat myself.
ReplyDeleteThe Jayne Cobb inspired hat pattern is fantastic! I love how you've captured the essence of the character while providing such clear instructions. Savingscentstogether
