So I was making my daughter a hat the other day and she asked me for a Fairy. So I decided to make her a green fairy. She is 5 and this is actually the first time she has named something. My baby is growing up *sniff* Pattern available at My Etsy Store

Free Convertible Hat Pattern

I wanted to make a cool hat pattern so my mother in law could make hats. She can only make simple things. I came up with this. It is basically just a tube cinched on top. If you make this please post a link to pics :D I would love to see what people come up with.

Gauge: 4 inches = 13 stitches and 14 rows
My head size is 22 and a half inches around so adjust your hook size accordingly. Remember yarn stretches a little bit so this hat will fit inches bigger too.

Yarn: regular 4 ply worsted yarn

Hat measures about 10 inches from top to bottom so if you want to try it in hdc or dc those are the measurements :)

abbreviation meanings:
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
fp: Front post
bp: back post
ss: slip stitch
sk: skip
FO: Fasten Off


H/8-5.00MM hook
12 sc= 4 inches
100% Acrylic yarn (the cheap stuff LOL)

with black ch 75 join to first ch with a ss to form a circle (or chain enough to go around your head), ch 1

sc in each ch around, join with a ss to top of first sc, ch 2

*1dcfp, 1dcbp* repeat from * to * around, join with a ss to top of first dc, ch 2 (5 rounds) (on the end of the 5th round ch 1 instead of chaining 2)

switch to pink

sc in each dc around, join with a ss to top of first sc, ch 1

sc in each sc around, join with a ss to top of first sc

switch to black

ch 1, sc in each sc, join with a ss to top of first sc, ch 1

repeat with 2 rows of each color until there is 7 stripes of pink and 7 stripes of black

on the last round

ch 2, skip 1, *sc 2, ch 1, sk 1, sc 2* continue from * to * around join with a ss. FO.

for the top tie ch 140 FO and weave around the top holes and cinch shut and tie a bow. add beads to the end ties and you are done :D

*NOTE* If you are making the hat just one color instead of chaining and joining with a ss at the end of every round you can get a marker and make it in rounds so you don't get a seam line.

You can wear the hat as a slouchy hat, Pull your hair through the hole in the top, fold up the brim, or wear it as a scarf.
